Review for the evening show I saw on August 19th! #abbievena Abbie: so I'd heard a lot about Abbie from @stillsortofquiet because she had seen her back in February and had fallen in love with her portrayal. I can say that Abbie did not disappoint! ngl I cry every time I see the Matilda come up from under the miracle table and I literally broke down. To start this off her accent is slightly different because of her usual Manchester accent but it really was not noticeable at all unless you were aware. Her acting choices were really interesting in the first scene and her I'm a girl wasn't as powerful as other girls voice wise but the emotion in her face was just heartbreaking. Her naughty was cute and sneaky as usual and I really loved her ninja moves. One thing I noticed about her was that her character progression was handled very well throughout the story's. She did actually smile a lot more then other Matilda's in the first act (basically the opposite to éva-marie who didn't smile at all 😂). Personally I prefer Matilda's who don't smile but she really made it work as it make Matilda seem more childish! One of the things that I remember so well and what made me burst into tears was 'the biggest hug in the world'. She waited a good 15 seconds before hugging miss honey and it felt like she hugged her a little longer then usual before the trunch came storming on. she's an unreal little dancer which really stood out in Bruce. Her when I grow up solo struck me really hard. Just the way she delivered it was really powerful. She just looked so torn apart and it was like the smiling Matilda from the first act was so broken and gone. she didn't smile at all during the second act which I absolutely loved...her take on the role was really different in the second act so it's hard to explain! She was angry in the second act especially in I'm here. Her voice was so powerful over the escapologist even though her mic seemed lower. When she lifted her head from the bed she genuinely looked like she'd been crying. Ok so I know that she doesn't hit the high note in quiet which makes people assume that it's not as powerful. If anything it made the song even more powerful. It was like all the anger and the sadness had built up and her voice just broke with the building up of emotions. it actually made me cry more then I usually do aha. The way she delivered the lines 'an acrobat' and 'an escapologist' in the scene with miss honey. it was like she knew it all along and it was just confirming what she had suspected which I really liked! she didn't rush her lines coming towards the end which I feel other Matilda's do because the shoes coming to an end. As usual I fell apart at 'yes they had found each other' and looked like an utter dope 😂 it was just so magical I can't even explain how much I loved this performance! Stay tuned for a review on the rest of the cast ❤️
Child cast review - matilda the musical 19th of august 2017 evening
Here's the follow up review on the kids from when I saw the show on the 19th of August! I managed to see these kids' final show as team together on team green!
Ben: seriously haven't heard any full audios of Ben before I saw him because I wanted to have an opinion of what he was like live! really powerful voice and one of the funniest bruce monologues I've heard. He was also really playful and seemed like a more lighthearted take on the role.
Elena: this girl is unreal. I cannot even explain how good she was. Being honest probably the best I've seen! Her dancing was sharp and she was just so sneaky and cute. Herself and Kacy were so good in bruce which is important cause you tend to notice the kids in the front more! Overall incredibly funny and really talented.
Mylo: again one of the best I've seen. really like his playground scene and he stood out to me the most in miracle!
Kacy: so this is the second time I've seen Kacy and I'd honestly be ok with seeing her maybe another 100 times. Without a doubt the best Amanda I've personally seen and heard. This star does not get enough credit! Honestly think she would've made a really good Matilda too cause her acting is just on point. She stood out in every single scene and my eyes were just drawn to her automatically. She's just too talented for her own good 😂
Nicholas: yet again I have a new favourite Eric. These kids just keep getting better everytime I see this show. My eyes actually did not leave him in miracle along with mylo. it just seemed like everything came naturally to him...he just reacted to every scene perfectly and when his ears were pulled he seriously looked like he was in pain. Again in revolting children he looked sooo fierce. Just incredible!
Tia: literally again she was one of the best I've seen. Definitely facial expressions were one of the most genuine and believable. Loved her in revolting children! Kira: I feel like I should be doing a separate post for Kira because she deserves a full review of her own. The point of my trip was to finally get to see her perform live after I didn't manage to see her as Amanda or hortensia both times I'd gone before! Just the star of the show for me ngl. She has one of the more minor roles but fully takes advantage of all the time she has on stage. She has boatloads of passion and it's really evident. Of course because I went specifically to see her I watched her more then I'd usually watch hortensias. The whole way through the show my eyes were obviously pulled in her direction but I feel like they would have been anyhow if I hadnt come to see her. Her dancing is so sharp and you can see she's experienced in the show. She focuses a lot on expressions and it seemed like dancing just came naturally to her. In revolting children her solo was so fierce and you could see that she was just giving it her all. So upset that she's leaving today and sending my support from Ireland for her last show!
Craig: I personally don't tend to notice tommys as much as I feel I should but he was just really really good in smell of rebellion I couldn't help but watch him! This cast overall was just really expressive which I love in any cast 🙌 overall this was such an amazing experience for me and I'm so glad I had the chance of seeing all these incredible kids ❤️so sad to see some of them leave after what I've seen it's obvious that this isn't the last we'll see of them!!
matilda the musical 20th of august 2017
Review for the show I saw on the 20th of August! #emmamoore Emma: I'd read many great things about Emma leading up to when I saw her so you can imagine how excited I was when I found out she was on. She's definitely a good bit smaller then Abbie height wise. She visably looked younger but strangely enough acted older and more mature than Abbie's take. She's like a mix between Éva-Marie and Abbie and I absolutely love both those girls' take on the roles. Her miracle solo was hard and emotionless and she looked angry almost. She shouted the first 'I'm a girl' so loudly it took my off guard. In my opinion she has the best 'Naughty' out all the girls I've seen. She had the right amount cheekiness and fierceness that I just loved. Definitely a softer dancer compared to others. Her story scenes with Mrs Phelps were serious but she somehow showed how excited she was while telling these stories with without smiling which is really impressive. Just loved her playground scene with Olivia...they worked so well together! The narcolepsy scene was delivered perfectly. She said her lines really quickly which made the fact that she supposedly made this up on the spot even more impressive. Her stories were just perfect in general. It's hard to fit everything in but the little things I noticed were that she speaks so clearly. She pronounces her words brilliantly. When the music builds in Story 2 her voice can still be heard so clearly and she doesn't rush it at all. I felt she and Sharlene worked best together from the girls I've seen Sharlene perform with. Again she shouted her 'that's not right' to emphasise how angry she was. I've never cried at a 'When I Grow Up' solo before but somehow she set me off crying like a baby. It was the first time in the entire show that I'd seen her look in the least bit broken. I feel like you could even hear her voice breaking if you listened back to the audio. It was stunning. Her 'where's the revenge section?' was the best I've heard too. The line seemed to be purposely drawn out which made it even funnier. I just love her voice in I'm here. It was so much softer than the rest of the show when she sang with the escapologist. Her 'Big Fat Bully' wasn't as strong as other but what followed made it seem on purpose. She was almost frantic at the start of 'Quiet'. She rushed her lines and looks so confused and torn apart which is something I haven't seen before. I loved it! Her 'like I've sailed' was so soft and delicate and made the performance even more beautiful. Her dialogue following 'My House' was brilliant. Both she and Laura worked so well together. the realisation that crossed her face was very similar the Abbie's, although she did seem angrier. When she took Miss Honeys hand right before 'Revolting Children' I couldn't help but cry. It was so meaningful the way she grabbed her hand and smiled for the first time in the whole show as if she was almost proud of herself, Miss Honey and her classmates for getting rid of the Trunchbull and she couldn't hold her smile in. As per usual I bawled at the end. I just can't explain those final moments of the show. I think her portrayal got to me the most and made me and emotional wreck. Cannot put into words how much I loved her.
